Hey Everyone!! We'll we made it!! So far the trip has been fantastic! Our hosts are taking great care of us so far! We are now at Mabalingwe Game Reserve, is is very beautiful here and we are going on a safari later today! I'm sure your wanting to hear some results from the first competition. For the most part we are having a succesful time against our SA counterparts. My first bout was against an opponent I fought against in Greece on 2004 and was supposed to be a light contact bout. He came out punching and kicking as hard as possible. I kept my composure and won the first round on points. However in the second round a took a hard rear hand hook to the chin and went down. By the time I could get my head to stop spinning (LOL) the count was over and lost the bout, so remember keep the hands up and pull the punches back to your head as fast as you can!! (damn rust). Karen has had the best fighting stance of everyone at the event. She faced a very tall experienced South African with long legs and reach. Karen stayed with her opponent and kept the pressure on making her back up often, but in the end was out pointed. For her very first bout, Karen showed great resilience and determination! My next opponent is a former SA national Champion and WKA world title winner, who is getting back into the ring as my previous opponent had to back out. We will both training hard for these bouts and will take nothing for granted!! Please think of us on Friday and I hope I can update you all before we get back. Don't worry we are taking tons of photos!! See you soon!! ---------- Vic Nomad Instructor
