Hello from Naples,

The guys wanted to thank everyone for the support.

Sorry for the slow reply but we've faced a number of logistical challenges with this event. We are secluded in a resort out of the middle of nowhere and the hours have been very long.

Here are the results:

Wed:

Alexander Harmsen was first up. His opponent was a strong competitor from Ireland. The match was exciting with Alexander showing great poise throughout the match. The match ended with Ireland winning, but Alexander was very happy with his performance.

Jizad Ahmad was the second person up. He faced an opponent from Slovakia. It didn't take long before Jizad started to dominate the match. Jizad easily won the match for Canada. Later the same day Jizad faced an opponent from Azerbijhan. The first round of the match was very exciting with Jizad clearly taking the lead. In the second round unfortunately the match had to be stopped when a lead hook landed hard on Jizads chin. Despite Jizad wanting desperately to finish the match the doctor wouldn't allow him to continue. Not to worry though...Jizad was very proud of his peformance and is ready for more.

Thurs:

Alex Johnson was the last Nomad member to compete. His opponent was from Hungary. This match was a nail bighter from the beginning to the end of the match. In the first part of the bout Alex played into the Hungarians strengths, but he listened well and eventually turned the tide of the match. In the first round Alex's nose started to bleed and the fight was almost stopped. We managed to stop the bleeding and Alex came out fighting with everything he had. Unfortunately the judges felt the hungarian did enough to deserve the victory.

As a coach I'm very proud of each of our juniors. They gave everything they had and fought well. We'll definitely prepare a video presentation for this years xmas party so everyone can see some of the video footage.

There are still a number of Canadians competing so we'll be spending the next few days supporting the other members of the team.

Thanks again for the support!

Thanks for all the encouragement. The event is over now and I'm taking the boys over to the Island of Capri for our last day in Italy.

Overall the Canadian team brought home roughly 11 medals in total. 5 medals came from the full-contact and K-1 divisions. This is the first time in the history of WAKO that a canadian junior has ever medalled at these world championships.

All of our Canadian kids fought their hearts out and then made friends with kids from around the world, especially with the Irish!

We'll see you back in class soon and share all the details when we get there.
