Rega 'Rapid Fire' Jihad is just about to get on the plane for the Junior boxing nationals.
A special thanks goes out from Rega and I to all the great sparring with Kyle, Alex, Omar and others. We also want to thank Victor Provost for helping with the flights - www.vprovostconstruction.com. Last but definitely not least...Gavin Arbuckle for supervising sparring sessions.
Keep Rega in your thoughts and prayers this week as he takes one step closer to his Olympic dream!

Yesterday Rega had his first match against an opponent from Nova Scotia. The energy from the crowd before the bout was strong as the home town crowd got behind their boy and raised him up with cheers.
It wasn't long before the cheering stopped though. Rega quickly dominated the match and used his superior skills to pull a 6-0 victory.
Today Rega is not schedule to compete. He faces a boxer from Quebec tomorrow in order to go to the finals... ---------- John McMahon Head Instructor Nomad Kickboxing & Boxing

The match up was very much as expected...tough. Rega faced Diego, a more experienced athlete from Quebec. Both athletes wanted to move into the finals and weren't willing to give up an inch of ground in their pursuit of gold.
Early in the match Diego took the lead with a lead hook, but before long Rega stole the lead with a great jab followed by his strong cross. It wasn't easy but Rega managed to hang on to his lead for most of the bout and pulled away with a 6-4 win!
Rega steps into the ring today in the finals!

Today's match was very exciting. It was an Ontario vs. Ontario match up. Rega had a sleight height advantage while his opponent had greater experience.
Rega came out strong early in the bout and quickly established a 6-0 lead by the second round. As Rega tired near the end of the second his opponent Liam scored two quick points making the match 6-2 going into the third round.
Maintaining his game plan, Rega pushed hard in the third, but was penalized 2 points for dropping down under punches and leading with the shoulder. This brought the match to 6-4 for Rega.
Liam, knowing the match was within his grasp pushed hard and pressed Rega in the third round. Despite his strong efforts Rega managed to pull ahead and finish with a 9-4 victory.
I'm very proud to say that Rega 'Rapid Fire' Jihad, has made Nomad history on a number of levels. He is the first Nomad boxer to compete in the open class, he is also the first to compete at the boxing nationals, and now...the first Boxing National Champion that Nomad has produced.
Thanks again to all the other athletes and coaches that supported Rega on his drive towards the gold!!
